Eva Hesse: Studiowork Until 7 March
2010
An exhibition of work by Eva Hesse, a key figure in the history of
post-war art. Curated by Professor Briony Fer, renowned Eva Hesse
scholar, and Barry Rosen of The Estate of Eva Hesse, the exhibition
explores Hesse’s little known ‘test pieces’,
which radically challenged conventional definitions of
sculpture.
Katja Strunz: Sound of the Pregeometric Age
Until 7 March 2010
Berlin-based artist Katja Strunz’s first solo exhibition in a
public gallery in London. Her new installation has evolved out of
her reaction to the space – in particular the sound which
resonates from the road outside – and brings together a group
of figurines or ‘musicians’ which are made from
multiple found objects, including candlesticks, Turkish ashtrays,
cymbals and hotel reception bells that resemble parasols.
Junction: An exhibition and screenings celebrating three
artists’ projects for King’s Cross 11 – 14 March
2010
Commissioned by Camden Arts Centre and supported
by Bloomberg, Junction is a series of three new
commissions for London’s King’s Cross in 2008-9. Artist
William Hunt, art and architecture collective public works and
filmmaker Ria Pacquée made new works including live music,
comedy, undercover filming, a mobile poster float, and a polygraph
machine.
Anna Maria Maiolino:
Continuous 2 April – 30 May 2010
The first major UK solo exhibition by Italian-born Brazilian artist
Anna Maria Maiolino, one of the most significant artists working in
Brazil today. The exhibition will include a new, site-specific
installation and film works made over the last 30 years.
Angela de la Cruz: After 2 April – 30 May
2010
London-based artist Angela de la Cruz presents new and existing
work in her first solo exhibition in a UK public gallery. Situated
in between painting and sculpture, de la Cruz’s works
variously hide in corners, bully each other and fall from the wall
as they fight against the physical constraints of gallery
spaces
Jim Hodges: 11 June – 29 August
2010
In his first solo exhibition in a UK public gallery, American
artist Jim Hodges presents works spanning two decades alongside a
site-specific installation.
My Funeral Song 11 June - 05 September 2010 Camden Arts Centre is delighted to present My Funeral Song, a new film work by London-based Serbian artist Breda Beban. Multiple screens show in close-up several of Beban's friends as they listen to the songs they would like played at their funeral. This deceptively simple idea belies the complex process at play, as we witness the subjects of the films simultaneously remembering their lives and imagining a future without themselves.
Painting on Unknown Languages 24 September - 28 November 2010 A solo presentation of the Dutch artist Réne Daniëls. Painting on Unknown Languages brings together a group of paintings and drawings from throughout his career which reveal the range of his ideas and obsessions.
an exhibition 22 - 27 June 2010 Camden Arts Centre is delighted to present the first exhibition of its Insights youth programme in collaboration with Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, showcasing works in progress made by young people aged 14 - 19 in partnership with youth organisations in Camden, Islington and Brent.
an exhibition 13 - 18 July 2010
Camden Arts Centre is pleased to present Get The Message: an exhibition, showcasing collaborative work made by artists and pupils from Special Education Needs schools.
Spiral festival : 28 - 29 August 2010
Camden Arts Centre is delighted to present Spiral, its free annual summer festival taking over the studios, garden and café for the bank holiday weekend in August - open to families and visitors of all ages. Visitors can build their own monumental sculpture from artist Serena Korda's deceptive, unlikely objects and in doing so help her create a new ritualised dance to be performed at the Festival. Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa will work with a choreographer to develop a new dance class where visitors can learn to dance like a stadium rock stars such as the lead singers of Coldplay, Iron Maiden and The Who.
an exhibition: 10 December 2010 - 20 February 2011
A new exhibition of works selected by British artist Simon Starling. Conflating works already exhibited at Camden Art Centre during the past five decades, the works in Starling's exhibition will be installed in the exact position they occupied the first time around. These fragments of the Centre's history will be staged alongside images, ideas and forms projected as a possible future programme: the probable past and possible future of Camden Arts Centre momentarily coming together in an unstable present.
